Liza Weinstein
UFT Teacher Center District Literacy Coach
Liza Weinstein is a literacy educator and coach with more than a decade of experience supporting students and teachers across New York City. She began her career as an elementary teacher in ICT, Dual Language, and General Education settings, developing deep expertise in literacy instruction, multilingual learner support, and culturally responsive, inquiry‑driven teaching.
Most recently, she served as an Academic Intervention Support Teacher at PS 1 Alfred E. Smith School, where she implemented Tier 2 phonics interventions and partnered with school leadership to accelerate literacy growth. Prior to this role, Weinstein taught grades four and five at PS 1, piloting a shared ELA curriculum and supporting multilingual learners and students with disabilities.
She holds an M.A. in TESOL from New York University and a B.S. in Childhood Education from Pennsylvania State University. She is professionally certified in Childhood Education 1–6, ESOL K–12, and Early Childhood Education Birth–2.
Weinstein currently serves as the UFT Teacher Center District 28 Literacy Coach, supporting schools in the implementation of NYC Reads. She works across the district and within individual school communities to strengthen literacy practices through professional learning, one‑on‑one coaching, model lessons, and side‑by‑side teaching.
